The deal values the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – after McLaren were valued at £3.5bn in an adjustment to corporate structure in September. Wolff, who holds one-third of Mercedes F1, would sell a stake approximately 5%. Wolff, aged 53 will remain as team boss and CEO should the deal proceed. Shareholder Structure Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes-Benz and industrial group Ineos Group, who both hold a third of the company. An official representative said: "We will be making no official statement on the matter. The governance of Mercedes F1 stays unchanged, and all three partners are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in F1." Financial Growth The deal signifies a substantial rise in worth of the Mercedes team after Ineos Group bought its share for £208m in 2022. This surge reflects the growth in valuations of F1 teams in the past few years due to the growing popularity of the sport around the world. This trend was evident with the success of the F1 movie starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which was released last summer and has grossed more than $630m (£458m) at the box office. It is Pitt's most successful movie and the highest-earning sports movie ever released. Present Performance Mercedes are second in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren, with three races left this season. Their lead driver George Russell has secured victory in two of the 21 races so far and is in fourth place in the individual standings behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. Mercedes secured a record eight consecutive team titles and seven driver championships, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 and 2021.
