A Unique Collaborative Solo Quest

Described as a “self-coop” puzzle game, Gloomy Eyes teams up a zombie boy known as Gloomy and a human girl named Nena as they start an quest to bring the sun back to their shadowy environment. Their design resembles collectible figures mixed with the puppets from a Laika film. The pale-skinned and baggy-eyed appearance is influenced by the look of Tim Burton’s films, and the story is a classic family-friendly journey. The pair develops an unbreakable friendship over the duration of the game’s 14 chapters as Nena attempts to show to her priest uncle that, you know, perhaps living-impaired beings aren’t half bad.

Innovative Problem-Solving Features

The innovative label originates from the game’s interactive problem-solving. When Gloomy and Nena cross paths, gamers switch among the recent allies to complete challenges and progress through the areas. Since he's not alive, Gloomy is unable to traverse through the light of a light source, while Nena may be grabbed by idle zombies unless a lamp is focused on them.

They have to cooperate closely — in practice, gamers operate them in tandem — to finish levels. Nena could adjust or temporarily shut off illumination to create passages for Gloomy, while the thoughtful character will utilize his supernatural ability to rearrange items in the surroundings, revealing ways for Nena.

Immersive Environment Creation

The brain-teasers remind me a little of The Gardens Between, in the manner the areas are floating, miniature designs that the view pans around in coordination with your protagonists. Gloomy Eyes’ settings are quite fun, leading the companions around a fair and through a spooky mansion, among other places. There’s a “diorama view” button that allows you to view from afar and spin the areas, simultaneously to admire the designs and look for ways that may not have been clear.

Small Issues and Complete Adventure

Here lies one of the only difficulties with Gloomy Eyes. Like other releases with a locked camera, occasionally it's confusing where the heroes are able to move. You may need to just bump into a several various objects to figure out which ones are usable, as the game doesn't always indicate.

Nonetheless, those minor challenges don't obstruct of a ghostly-charming fun adventure. Gloomy Eyes has a compact length, with roughly three to five hours worth of puzzles. Subsequent stages combine minor sneaking and action elements with the puzzle solving, as Gloomy Eyes advances to a fulfilling — and moderately unforeseen — ending.

Release and Summary

Those steering clear of the frights of intense horror titles should definitely try Gloomy Eyes. The game is out on Nintendo platform, Sony system, PC, and Xbox, and is available at a reduced price for a quarter off on online stores.

The spooky-cute adventure is available on several consoles and provides a pleasurable option for players seeking autumn enjoyment minus the terrifying moments.
