Iran is prepared to reinitiate nuclear negotiations with Washington provided that it is handled with "dignity" and "honor", Tehran's foreign minister has declared.

The Iranian diplomat declared solely negotiations worked, and disclosed fresh requests had come from intermediaries to restart negotiations with the American leadership. He claimed Iran did not have secret atomic facilities, and Tehran could not yet allow the UN nuclear inspectorate to inspect struck enrichment centers for security reasons.

Magic Solution Proposed

Iran's diplomats stated they felt they had achieved a "magic solution" to the enrichment issue in earlier negotiations, when it was decided an Iran-based consortium with Washington's engagement could refine atomic fuel. Both sides would have been able to declare success since domestic enrichment would have continued and the US could be assured that Iran's nuclear programme was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been decided in the negotiations that Washington's technical specialists could function within Iranian territory, but that was a reasonable assumption of the consortium proposal. Diplomats asserted on multiple occasions they had reached agreement with Washington's diplomat the US official only for the arrangement to disintegrate due to "spoilers in Washington".

Existing Position
